1Kw Petter-Light Set 

After obtaining a 3hp Petter light base from eBay I tough it would be nice to make up a Petterlight set ,I had a 1922 3hp Petter M I had the base all I needed was a Petter Dc dynamo, realising that this was probably akin to hens teeth I tried an old 1Kw Lister that we had on the base to see how it looked , It looked good but the feet did not quite align this was not a major problem as I could quite easily make some adapting plates.  The dynamo had been obtained a long time ago at a rally for £20 and it looked rough , on inspection all he windings were found to be shorting down to ground so a complete rewind was on the cards  having worked previously rewinding larger electrical motors I thought I would have a go .  The progress can bee seen through the gallery below.

The old dynamo stripped apart

3hp Petter M stripped , Petter-light base primed up in red oxide.

Armature stripped and cleaned, care was taken to note the arrangement of the windings and insulation.

Making up the replacement coils , all 32 of them !!

First coats of top coat

Appling the insulation

Insulating the slots with the correct insulating card

Fitting the windings

Windings fitted and connecting to the comm.

All finsihed and coated in insulating varnish

Painting the dynamo cases

By luck I had obtained from another engine enthuast a varible ressitor which was just the job.

Cleaned up and re-painted

One brush holder cleaned up.
