Lister N  1928  8hp

This engine was one of three engines recovered from a farm near Leominster, when the engine was first viewed it was a cold winter day, and the surrounding access to the field where the engine lay was very wet, the spark plug was missing and it was seized although the magneto was still there and in all was 90% complete,  Realising that we could not recover the engine on that day we made a quick trip to the local garage and purchased a can of WD40. After spraying the engine liberally  and empting  half a can down the bore a spark plug was put into place and return visit scheduled.

The return visit was much dryer and the recovery process began, with time the engine had sank about 6 inches into the ground, so the base was dug out,  and a scaffold plank placed to allow the engine to slide up. A sturdy rope was attached round the flywheels and  to the car, so carefully we began to pull the engine up the plank to allow us to winch the engine into the trailer, as we were doing this the flywheels suddenly moved and hey presto the engine was not seized anymore (good old WD), once loaded the engine was taken home and partially dismantled to check it out, all in all it was not bad. Restoration is still waiting to begin but now we have obtained a suitable trolley hopefully it wont be long.
